SLEDT 2018 Winner On Training Tour To Rwanda

SLEDT 2018 winner, the Student Union Government (SUG) of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai ably led by comrade Umar Abdullahi was on a follow up training tour on Leadership, Peace and Environmental Sustainability to Kigali, Rwanda between December 10th and 14th 2018.

SUG IBBU Lapai, emerged as the winner of SLEDT 2018 in a keenly contested competition which had five schools as finalists. They are: Imo State University, University of Agriculture Markurdi, University of Benin, Ibrahim Babangida University Lapai and Federal University of Technology, Wakari.

The 2018 edition of the training was the third edition of the annual leadership training event hosted by the Youth Development Center (YDC) of Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library with the theme “Raising Responsible and Responsive Students’ Leaders for Institutional and National Development” held between June 4th and 7th 2018.

The five finalist gave account of their stewardship based on the seven cardinal benchmark of SLEDT in the presence of professionals of diverse professional background who accessed their achievements. At the end of their presentations, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida University edged out the remaining four universities to emerged as the best Student Union Government in 2018 and swap three other awards (Most productive, Most Accountable, Most Sustainability conscious, and Most Continuity conscious). Meanwhile, Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi emerged as the runner up and also swap Most Visionary, Most Peaceful and Most Influential Student Union Government in Nigeria 2018.

Ibrahim Badamosi University displayed a variety of students oriented uncompleted projects (Water, transportation) inherited from the previous administration led by Com. Gimba a SLEDT Alumni, and how they have been able to continue the projects up to completion. The SUG also show case the projects initiated to increase the IGR of the union, among the projects are the Installation of Solar powered ATM on the school campus gotten through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), production of cream, flash drives, branded shirts and caps, provision of additional tricycle in the name of the union. Worthy of mentioning is the peaceful resolution the union’s intervention did to the case of gender Violence around their campus, also the cordial relationship between students and managements which is evident even during Ramadan fast as vice-chancellor, dean of students and students breakfast together.
