VICE CHANCELLOR SCORES SLEDT HIGH ON CAMPUS LEADERSHIP AND PEACE

The Vice Chancellor of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai Niger State Professor Muhammd Nasir Maiturare has stated that the Students’ Development Training and Tournament (SLEDT) of LEAD Transformation Initiative is redefining the identity of Students unionism and making the students leaders fit to intellectually engaged university management on issues affecting them instead of their previous barbaric approach of violent protest.

The VC who explicitly stated the transformations SLEDT has brought to his students’ leaders over the years and therefore pledge to communicate SLEDT at the committee of Vice Chancellors. He then called on the student body to continue to work towards the establishment of a long lasting peaceful campuses across the country

SLEDT is redefining the identity of Students unionism and making the students leaders fit to intellectually engaged university management on issues affecting them instead of their previous barbaric approach of violent protest.

The Vice Chancellor who made this known during the visit of SLEDT team to the university. The visit was part of the SLEDT program in the bid to strengthened the capacity built by the students’ leaders during the 2018 event, to inspect the projects presented during SLEDT 2018 and to put modalities in place for seamless hosting of SLEDT Nigeria 2019.

While commenting on the Vice Chancellor’s remark, the leader of the team Mr. Titilayo Femi kings who is also the Project Lead SLEDT Africa told the Vice Chancellor that there is already an existing big connection between the campus leadership and the national leadership, hence intentional efforts most be put in place to rightly groom the current campus leaders for the future national leadership positions. Mr. Titilayo who expressed delight over the good working relationship between the students and the University Management in IBBUL, hinged it on the student friendly posture of the Vice Chancellor.

He therefore announced an award of the “Most Student Friendly Vice Chancellor” to Professor Muhammad Nasir Maiturare which he said the investiture would be done at a later date.

Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai emerged as the winner of SLEDT 2018 and the SUG president also enjoyed an all expense paid trip to Rwanda as part of the benefits of clinging the first position in the competition.
