𝑺𝒕𝒖𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔’ 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝑷𝒍𝒆𝒅𝒈𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒃𝒂𝒕 𝑪𝒍𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆 𝒃𝒚 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 12𝒌 𝑻𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒂𝒖𝒍𝒍𝒚
The Students Union Government of the Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi, Benue State has emerged as the 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 in Nigeria at the just concluded 2019 edition of 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬’ 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 held at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida Univeristy Lapai Niger State.
The Students Union which was represented by 𝐷𝑎𝑗𝑜ℎ 𝑇𝑒𝑟𝑙𝑢𝑚𝑢𝑚 𝐽𝑎𝑐𝑜𝑏, 𝐼𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑚𝑎 𝑌𝑎𝑘𝑢𝑏𝑢 𝐿𝑜ℎ𝑜𝑑𝑒𝑑𝑜𝑜, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑀𝑖𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑒𝑙 𝑁𝑔𝑜𝑧𝑖 𝐵𝑙𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑔 displayed various developmental projects carried out by their administration which is aimed at improving the socio-economic life of students on FUAM campus. The union enthralled the audience and judges by their chain of project continuity from the past three administrations and their plans of making the implemented projects continue even after there tenure. Also worthy of mentioning is their sustainability plan to ensure the projects are completed with or without them, a character that is lacking among our political office holders which has become a burden in our developmental journey. They also displayed some arrays of charitable projects at helping the indigent students.
The Union stated their displeasure on the negative effects of climate change which made them seek the support of the legislative arm of the union in passing into law a pro-environmental bill which will sees the Union planting ten thousand trees every year.
𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬’ 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 (SLEDT) is an annual intellectual gathering of students’ leaders across the country to challenge the menace facing tertiary education in Nigeria. In participation at the 2019 edition of the tournament and training were 𝐅𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞, 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐢, 𝐄𝐤𝐢𝐭𝐢 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐀𝐝𝐨-𝐄𝐤𝐢𝐭𝐢, 𝐁𝐚𝐮𝐜𝐡𝐢 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐆𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐮, 𝐅𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐋𝐚𝐟𝐢𝐚, 𝐔𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐲𝐨 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐒𝐨𝐤𝐨𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐁𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐢 𝐁𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐝𝐚 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐋𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐢. The participating schools cut across six states from four different geo-political zones of the federation.
For the next five years, SLEDT will therefore work on 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬 who will be representing thousands of students’ population with the mandate of planting over five hundred thousand trees.
